Festivals are well and truly in the air, and there is no place better for a music shindig than in Brighton (or Hove).
So I am very excited to be heading to a festival on my doorstep on May bank holiday Sunday. The perfect opportunity for an all day dance off from those fine folk who run the Club Tropicana nights in the city.
Even more exciting is getting to see Norman Jay MBE doing his funky thing up close and personal, and not have to fight the masses of Carnival to get a groove on to his eclectic tunes; Along with a live performance from cult funksters Soul II Soul you can tantatalise your earbuds with the cream of DJs from the best Brighton collectives including Robert Luis from Tru Thoughts label who discovered artists including Quantic, Bonobo, Alice Russell or Rodney P…Soul Casserole will be on the northern soul, rare funk, motown and hip hop mash-up tip, with The Jazz Club’s Russ Dewberry playing Latin, disco funk.
With the Outdoor Stage and the Club Tropicana Tent, you can mix and match as the mood takes you
With an eclectic selection of jazz, jungle, funk, bass, tropical, hip hop and reggae on offer, along with cocktail bars, international food and (fingers crossed) sunshine, that is my Sunday sorted. But even if it does rain, I won’t have far to stumble home… After the after party and making lots of new friends of course! (It is Brighton after all…)
