Today is the first day of November and although it seems to have gone under the radar a little bit this year, Movember is up and running and all across the length and breadth of the UK hair is spouting from the top lip of millions of young men.
If you’ve been living under a rock for the last 15 years, Movember is all about raising awareness to mens health issues, specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention. Since its humble beginnings in Adelaide, South Australia the movement has raised over $174-million worldwide and during that time has saved many lives.
Aqua Man
Now the most important thing to remember about growing a moustache (or beard for that matter) is that it’s all about what you shave off. Unless you want to end up as a ZZ Top lookalike (interesting fact the drummer with ZZ Top is called Mr Beard, but does infact only have a moustache) you need a really good quality beard trimmer.
Ever since I went for a skinhead number one haircut way back in 1989 I think I’ve always bought Wahl trimmers and they always last for ages. If you go to a top barbers you’ll notice that 9 times out of 10 they will be using them too.
I’ve managed to get my hands on one of their new products, it’s called the Aqua Blade and it’s a top notch beard trimmer that, as you might have guessed from the name can be used on a wet or dry shave. The cordless trimmer comes with a recharging unit that according to the box will last for 180 minutes runtime and `after that takes only a 5 minute charge to give you 15 minutes continual use. My one was charged when it arrived and I haven’t had to charge it yet.
The beard trimmer comes with 12 attachments (0.2mm to 25mm) in order to give you the EXACT length you are looking for. It’s equally as good for trimming the back of your neck and sideburns too but be warned the blade is VERY sharp, so treat it with respect.
Also in the box is a carry case, cleaning brush and blade oil to keep things moving nicely and it is guaranteed for 5 years too.
it’s priced £59.99 throughout November and December (RRP £89.99), for more info visit wahlstore.co.uk
The Brush Off
With a hark back to the golden age of barber shops and cut-throat razors a cool set out at the moment and in time for Christmas is Shave Facial Essentials by men-ü (top marks for the umlaut btw).
The pack contains everything you need for a great shave and can also be used with the Aqua Blade. First off is a man-made shaving brush that is more hygienic and definitely more animal friendly than the usual ones made of badgers hair. Also in the pack is Healthy Facial Wash, Matt ‘Skin Refresh’ Gel, and Facial
Moisturiser Lift, cleanse, tone and moisturise to complete the shaving process. Apparently cleansing, toning and moisturising are important in order to remove all the dirt that can block pores and play havoc with your soft (but manly skin).
