Taking Steps Towards Becoming a Fully Fledged Driver

Taking to public roads can be pretty daunting. While the majority of us have experience being in a car as a passenger, getting behind the wheel is a pretty different experience. You’re going to have to jump through multiple hoops before you can become a fully fledged driver on the roads. Here are a few of the steps you’ll have to face to reach your goal!

Getting Your Licence

First things first, you’re going to have to pass your driving test to get your full licence and take to the open road. Now, this journey starts out with applying for a provisional licence. This will give you permission to take your driving lessons out on public roads. Next, you need to find a high quality driving instructor with a great track record of early pass rates. This instructor will show you how a car works, how to operate the car, how to navigate the roads, what different road signs mean and other essential driving skills, such as how to fill the tank, how to follow instructions from a sat nav system and much more. Be patient during this stage of your journey. Not everyone passes first time and it can take a while until you’re even comfortable enough to put in for your test. When the day of the test comes, relax. It’s not all or nothing. You can always retake if it doesn’t go as planned. If you do pass, great! You can now take to the roads.

Getting Your First Car

Once you’ve passed, it’s time to start looking for your first car. Generally speaking, second hand cars tend to be a much better option for new drivers. Sure, brand new vehicles are more appealing. But chances are you’re going to make a few small errors while getting used to driving, such as scraping alloys, bumping wing mirrors or scratching your car’s doors. These aren’t so significant if you’re driving an already used vehicle and won’t impact it’s value quite so much. If you can’t afford to buy a car outright, don’t worry. There are a number of finance options out there. Just make sure to use a good car dealer, like Reynolds Motor Group. They’ll only sell you a decent quality vehicle. You don’t want to purchase a car, only to find out it breaks down and has multiple problems a few drives in!

Practice

When you pass your test, you’re likely to still feel a bit unsure on the roads – especially when you don’t have an instructor minding your every move. To become a better driver is simple – it just takes a lot of practice. Get out onto the roads as much as possible. Don’t back out of certain maneuvers you find difficult – otherwise you’ll never improve. Instead, practice parallel parking, reverse parking and other tricky moves in quieter places to get to grips with things.

Follow the above steps and you’ll be great on the roads in next to no time! It just takes persistence and the right vehicle to get you going!
