Sometimes, planning to travel isn’t as easy as it sounds. Given you want to see and do as much as possible, how can you possibly narrow down an entire world?
The best solution to this tends to be to pick a theme. You could choose to focus on finding sites of historical significance; religious temples; or countries with interesting indigenous music. This can be rather restrictive though, ensuring that one holiday is fairly similar to the rest.
So why not try something largely irrelevant, but that nevertheless helps you to establish a theme - the alphabet? You’ve got 26 letters to try, and the cities found in each letter will offer something diverse from the others. Below, we’ve explored the idea of travelling to cities that begin with the letter M, as it’s about the most suitable letter to demonstrate just how interesting a theme this can be…
Madrid
The Spanish capital is a tourist hotspot and for good reason. The weather is good, the shopping is even better. It won’t cost you a fortune to get there nor to navigate; public transport is affordable, and a taxi in Madrid isn’t going to break the bank either. All in all, it’s a city worth experiencing at least once.
The city is rich in history, as well as being home to some of the finest art in the world. It’s perfect if you like cultured city breaks, or want to spend longer in a location, exploring all that it has to offer.
Moscow

From the warmth of Spain to the chill of Russia now; the Russian capital is a must-see for any tourist who wants to see something different. The city is inexpensive to visit - flights aside - and features some fascinating historical insights. You can explore the lost world of the Tsars, the fall of the Soviet Union, and the modern-day Kremlin of Vladimir Putin.
The architecture in Moscow is delightful to western eyes, unaccustomed to seeing such color and vibrancy. The jewel in the crown is Saint Basil’s Cathedral; one of the most recognizable buildings in the world.
Muscat

Finally, cross the hemispheres and head to Oman for a visit to port capital of Muscat. Muscat is one of the oldest cities in the world, with a storied history dating back to antiquity. At times, the city has been in possession of many different conquering forces, giving it a blend of cultures that any seasoned traveller will love.
As one would expect for this part of the world, the weather is hot - so it might be best to go during the cooler months of March and April. The city is relatively affordable, though the high-end shopping available could be a test for your credit card!
As the above three examples show, picking a single letter and focusing on cities - especially capital cities - that start with that letter can give you a diverse and interesting travel focus. No matter which letter you choose, you’re guaranteed to find a delightful mix of the world, ensuring you the most complete travel experience imaginable.
