Saint Lucia has a new destination beach.
It seems like only last week when I was visiting the beautiful island of St Lucia for the 2019 Jazz Festival and despite news that Virgin Airlines are planning to withdraw from flying to the Island next year, it seems St Lucia is going through something of an exciting period of development.
Soufriere Beach Park has just opened at Hummingbird Beach and the new space features a restaurant, a spa, outdoor showers, a beach bar, a pizzeria, a smoothie bar along with a souvenir shop and a tourism information centre.
Soufriere is a cool place, being the old capital of the island it enjoys stunning views of the famous Piton mountains. I travelled there by boat and in addition to being close to the amazing Jade Mountain, it’s also close to the Viceroy Resort and Ladera, not to mention the iconic volcanic hot springs (more of which can be seen here).
Interestingly the project has been financed with support from the government of Taiwan and it’s part of a wider initiative to broaden the tourism experience in towns and villages around Saint Lucia.
