The Taste Test: Walker Sensations

It seems like ages ago when we first reviewed the Comic Relief Crisps, the boffins in the lab at Walkers have been burning the midnight oil again because they’ve just launched 2 new flavours.

Walkers Sensations New Flavours

And by look of things they’ve been holidaying in exotic locations as the 2 new additions to the Sensations range, ‘Smoked Monterrey Chilli with Goats Cheese and Mexican Fiery Sweet Chipotle‘ have a slightly more glamourous feel than the All Day Breakfast and Fish and Chips flavours they came up with last time around.

One of my fav crisps of all time is the Thai Sweet Chilii (pronounced ‘Thigh’ by my Mother in Law), but they have been around for a while now and to tell you the truth, as much as I like them my eyes have began wandering intriguingly towards some ‘other’ flavours.

I don’t mind admitting after some good times I was looking for new adventures in the crisp department (Nando’s Hot anyone?), so these new flavours couldn’t have come at a better time. We put them through the now legendary Flush the Fashion taste test and here are the results.

They Say: “First the deep, smoky flavour of chipotle chilli gives way to sweet pimento and onion before finishing with a spicy lingering heat”.

Dawn: I like these, but I don’t looove them.. oddly they are actually sweeter than the Thai Sweet Chill flavour, and I was expecting them to be a bit spicier than they were.. (in the meantime half the packet has gone), they are a nice alternative but I prefer the Thai Sweet ones.

Pete: I agree, they are different, but they should and could be a bit hotter. There wasn’t the fire explosion on my taste buds I was expecting. Maybe they will bring out a hardcore intense flavour for pro crisps eaters?

They Say: “With the first bite the sweet smokiness of Chilli and Cinammon envelops the tastebuds, with the second experience the richness of goats cheese and mild but spicy heat”.

Dawn: I prefer these, you can actually taste the Goats Cheese, not tried anything like these before. They have come up with something … dare I say it NEW!

Pete: After lots of Vintage Cheddar, Cheshire, Wensleydale and any number of different kinds of ‘cheese’ crisps that all taste the same, these actually do taste of Goats Cheese and the Smoked Monterrey Chilli balances the flavour perfectly so your taste buds experience a warm chilli tickle too. There must have been a lot of backslapping when they ‘discovered’ this combination.

This might be a bit premature but they could even be my new favourite crisp!

Both kinds are worth a try and well done Walkers for coming up with two unique flavours. The Smoked Monterrey Chilli with Goats Cheese flavour have all gone and we’re onto the second bag now as I type!

Please remember to enjoy crisps responsibly.
