Style: How to Create A Capsule Wardrobe

We’ve all been there where we have a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear! If your wardrobe is causing you stress every morning then you may want to instead think about creating a capsule wardrobe for yourself.

A capsule wardrobe is essentially a small collection of clothes that all coordinate well to provide you with a wide variety of outfits, giving you more outfit choices but with less space taken up and less stress added to your mornings! This will save you money, time and make mornings a breeze.

Include Some on Trend Seasonal Pieces

Before each season, we would recommend going through your wardrobe and updating it for the start of the new season. Just because you have a capsule wardrobe does not mean you cannot have a few on-trend items! Websites such as Firefly and Lilies are a great place to look as they provide great quality on-trend pieces that won’t break the bank as you go through the different seasons.

Clear Out Your Existing Closet

One of the main advantages of having a capsule wardrobe is that they are clutter free! Your wardrobe should only be filled with clothing that you love, value, appreciate and will use regularly. We would suggest going through your existing wardrobe and donating any items that you are no longer going to wear.

A good rule here is that if you have not worn it in the past year, chances are you are not going to wear it again in the future! You can also package up any seasonal items that you definitely won’t be wearing for a while and put them in storage.

Look at Your Own Personal Style

As we get older, we become more accustomed to and aware of our own personal sense of style. Take a look at the items you already love and wear regularly and use this as your basis for a capsule wardrobe. Is there a particular brand’s style that you love? Are there a few colours that you tend to wear often? Is there is a brand’s whose items fit you perfectly? This can narrow down your search for items when creating your new capsule wardrobe.

There really is no point in creating what in your head is a perfect wardrobe but it is filled with clothes that are not practical for your everyday life. For example, if you live in a colder climate, there is no point in having a wardrobe filled with summer attire!

Invest in the Basics

When creating a capsule wardrobe, you will be wearing these items regularly, so it is important that they are of a high-quality and can withstand a lot of washes. Colours like white, grey and black are all basics that can be mixed and matched.

Does Your Wardrobe Flatter You?

Before you start buying items for your new wardrobe, we would recommend looking into what your body shape is and what clothes are going to be flattering on you. This will ensure you feel amazing and are confident in all of the items that are in your wardrobe.
