Who are your heroes?
I grew up skateboarding and idolizing people like Mark Gonzales and Neil Blender and I think this is a big reason why I ended up a visual artist. I have a ton of respect and appreciation for anyone who is able to stick to what they are naturally passionate about.
What is the art scene like in New York at the moment?
I’m still figuring that out… I’ve been in NYC for just over a year now. I’ve met some great people and love the neighborhood where my studio is located, Greenpoint, Brooklyn. As one would expect, the art scene is overflowing with energy here. I feel ridiculously spoiled to have access to so many galleries, museums, and the community of artists here.
Where can people see your work next?
I’m working on a show that will open in Brooklyn at the end of May called Paint it Now. The exhibit is organized and curated by myself and Philadelphia-based artist Thomas Buildmore. We’ve done this show twice in Boston and this will be the NYC debut.
The main attraction is a giant painting installation, all done in black and white, directly on the walls of the gallery. We chose almost twenty artists from NYC, Philly, and Boston to participate and transform the gallery into an enormous collaboration of styles, techniques and influences.
Paint it Now will open on May 27th at the Fowler Arts Collective in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
Oh and I have also got my other exhibition, “The Man, the Myth, the Moustache” at Brouwerij Lane 78 Greenpoint Ave, Brooklyn, NY on June 10th – July 8th.
