It’s The Vibe bar on Brick Lane, London and and I’m here to see Jon Fratelli. As ‘Reboot’s’ go, the first date of his UK tour is a low key affair, playing to probably no more than a hundred fans.
However, those in attendance saw a promising taste to what should be an amazing album.
Early signs are the Ex- Fratelli’s frontman isn’t going to forget his roots, and choosing to open with the classic ‘Chelsea Dagger’ went down a treat, (having the audience singing the “du duh duh du duh duh”) whilst manically jumping up and down.
The new material was equally well received and Fratteli as a solo performer illuminated the stage.
Taking a more country step with songs such as ‘Daddy Won’t Pay Your Bill‘ and ‘She’s My Shaker‘, Jon had even the shy-est feet tapping emphatically along to the air rippling riffs and bass billowing drums, a positive sign for previously unheard material.
First single of the forthcoming album, ‘Santo Domingo‘, (which sounds somewhat similar to Beck circa “Loser” era), is a constant jangling of tambourines alongside a finger clicking baseline that will have you whistling whether you like it or not.
A good taste of things to come.
