Despite missing the Reading Festival because Perry Farrell(right) had a sore throat Jane’s Addiction DID manage to play a set at Koko in Camden last night. The band are over here to promote their latest record The Great Escape Artist, their first record in eight years.
They did split up for a while when Perry and Stephen Perkins formed Porno for Pyros and Dave Navarro (below left) joined the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but still, this is only their fourth EVER proper record since forming in 1985.
Apparently in Camden last night they played just one track from ‘The Great Escape Artist’, and only ‘Just Because’ from 2003’s LP Strays. The rest of the set was from Nothing’s Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual.
Some people might think this was odd behaviour, but if (as in Jane’s Addiction’s case) your songs still sound as fresh and as good as they first did 20 years ago, why change? It certainly makes learning the set list a lot easier.
Here is the video to their latest single Irresistible Force. The album produced by Rich Costey (who also did Muse’s Absolution), is released in the UK on October the 4th.
Ex Guns N’ Roses / Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan spent nine months in the band while they were putting the initial tracks together but apparently left after concerns over the amount of keyboards being used in the studio (at least it wasn’t Cocaine).
