The Best Ever Movies to Watch in the Bath

I’m sure you have got a TV in your living room and possibly even a TV in your bedroom, but do you have a TV in your bathroom?

More and more people are taking the plunge and installing a new TV set in their bathroom, like this Waterproof TV from Bathroom Luxuries. There is a range of cool styles and options available; framed or frameless, white or black, you can even have a TV with ‘MirrorVision’. For the ultimate luxury they can also be installed outside around a pool or Jacuzzi area so you can catch up on your Fav show with a cocktail in one hand and the waterproof remote in another.

With the huge growth of online services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, not to mention the Britbox, the ITV and BBC steaming service (coming soon) it’s the perfect way to unwind and relax after a hard days work.

With the Oscars having just been and gone, I thought it might be fun to look at the best movies to watch while having a bath.

Splash

Year of Release: 1985
Bubbleometer Rating: 6 out of 10.
Oscars: 0 (one nomination)

Nominated for best original screenplay (it was beaten by Places in the Heart, remember that one?), Splash was a simple love story starring Tom Hanks and a beautiful girl, played by Darryl Hannah. The twist in the ‘tail’ was that she was also a mermaid. During the filming of the movie the actress spent so long in the sea as a mermaid she was actually befriended by real fish and even had a pilot fish that swam close to her tail.

Titanic

Year of Release: 1998
Bubbleometer Rating: 9 out of 10
Oscars: 10

The boat that launched the careers of Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet is the perfect viewing for a long soak. James Cameroon’s movie was the most expensive ever made (at the time) and won a massive 10 Oscars. Be prepared, the film is quite long (3 hours 15min) and you may need to add extra hot water around the 2 hour mark. Beware of icebergs!

Jaws

Year of Release: 1975
Bubbleometer Rating: 7 out of 10

Oscars: 4

Made in 1975, the tagline for Steven Speilberg’s masterpiece was ‘You’ll never go in the water again’. The movie stars Roy Sheider as Chief of Police Martin Brody, a big fish and a very small boat. It won 4 Oscars and ‘spawned’ 3 sequels including a very dodgy 3d version starring Michael Caine. Not a lot of people know that.

The Shape of Water

Year of Release: 2017
Bubbleometer Rating: 7 out of 10

Oscars: 4

The most recent movie in our list of movies to watch in the bath won four Oscars at the 2017 Academy Awards. The movie cost $20 million to make but took more than $195 million at the box office. The movie is a strange cross between the classic B movie, ‘The Creature from the Black Lagoon’ and French movie, ‘Amelie’. It’s a bit romantic, a bit scary and the perfect case of underwater love.
