For some strange reason many people in the UK prefer to enjoy the Christmas holidays on a beach in the sun, surrounded by bikinis, beach balls and cold beers. Why anyone would be crazy enough to leave behind the cold weather and mince pies, I don’t know, but they do. In their thousands.
Thankfully, raised awareness to the dangers of per-longed sun exposure means most people going away, now go prepared with a good supply of sun barrier cream for protection. Even so it’s still easy to get caught out.
I went to Austria over the Summer and made the mistake of not taking any with me. When I got there I didn’t have much time and found it difficult to find anything other than sun-tanning lotion, designed to aid with the tanning process and managed to get sunburn as a result. The worst thing was it actually cloudy and windy too, so I had no idea until it was too late.
Nivea have just produced this startling video with artist Thomas Leveritt, it’s done with a UV (Ultra-Violet) camera and shows pretty dramatically the protection sunscreen gives from harmful UV rays. It was filmed in Australia, the place where “Slip-Slap-Slop”, the first ever sun awareness campaign was launched.
They have plenty of experience in the skin protection business, Nivea’s first creme was launched in 1911 and these days they’re a recognised brand all over the world. If you’re going to Austria though, get some before you go (just to be sure).
