If you’ve been wondering what that huge 1920s building at the top of Oxford Street has been hiding behind the scaffolding, all will be revealed on 11th September, when the anticipated modern contemporary art ‘Moco Museum’ will open its doors to the public. The brand new museum will be a permanent addition between London’s Oxford Street, Marble Arch and Hyde Park, spanning 24,000ft² across three floors – contributing to the area’s expanding cultural development.
Filling three floors with art by the likes of Kaws, Yayoi Kusama, Banksy Basquiat andHaring, the headline opening show features esteemed pioneer of performance art, Marina Abramović’s ‘Healing Frequency’.
Following global success in Amsterdam and Barcelona, the Moco Museum has built a reputation as the home of cutting edge contemporary and digital art- consisting of modern masters who are shaping today’s society, challenging norms and inspiring positive change for a better future.
Founded by art lovers Lionel and Kim Logchies, Moco Museum is an initiative with a mission to awaken the world to the inspirational power of art. With over 50 years of combined experience working in the art world, the couple have established an art empire showcasing work acquired and on loan that would otherwise remain unseen in private collections and the UK outpost will showcase ‘Moco Masters’ by Andy Warhol; influential African American Jean-Michel Basquiat; Japanese legend Yayoi Kusama; American artist and social activist Keith Haring and English master Damien Hirst; Americanpop culture artists Jeff Koons and Tom Wesselman; and the infamous Pablo Picasso.
Whilst on the first floor you can enjoy the dynamic world of ‘Moco Contemporary Masters’, by the likes of a man who needs no introduction – Banksy alongside Tracey Emin, Julian Opie, iconic street artist KAWS, JR, Takashi Murakami and Hayden Kays. British music icon Robbie Williams will also feature with works from his recently released collection ‘Pride and Self-Prejudice’ which aim to address his personal journey with his mental health and have never before seen in the UK.
The basement focuses on ‘MocoImmersive Digital Artworks’ and NFTs with Argentinian multimedia female artist Pilar Zeta taking pride of place, alongside Andrés Reisinger and Six N. Five. visitors can experience award-winning DJ producer Don Diablo’s ‘HΞXIBIT III’ which houses a physical, futuristic, spaceship-like capsule, alongside American artist Daniel Arsham; Italian sculptor and Venice Biennale legend Lorenzo Quinn; and Ibiza multidisciplinary artist Miranda Makaroff and British sculptor Anthony James, before exiting through the gift shop and snapping up some memorabilia.
