Film – Jurassic World fans can look forward to 2018 sequel

Earlier this year, huge numbers of moviegoers from around the world flocked to cinemas in order to watch the long awaited dinosaur blockbuster Jurassic World. The popularity of the Jurassic Park movies in the 1990s helped to ensure that this movie was already a hit by the time its release was announced and many fans were eager for the release date to come around.

When Jurassic World was finally released, reactions from viewers were mixed. While some thought that it had been well worth the wait there were also many critics who were not impressed with the directorship from Colin Trevorrow or the plot of the movie in general. Despite this, the movie managed to make an impressive £967 million worldwide. This included the most profitable opening weekend in the history of movies, taking in £337 million globally.

In the 2015 Jurassic World movie, twenty two years had passed since the terrors that were seen at Jurassic Park. The plot of the movie centres around a genetically modified dinosaur, which manages to escape and wreaks havoc on the fictional island where the film is set.

Love it or hate it, there is no doubt that Jurassic World enjoyed huge success and this has had a knock on effect on everything from merchandising and influences in other industries through to the future of the Jurassic World/Jurassic Park franchise.

Sales of all sorts of Jurassic World merchandise have enjoyed success on the back of the movie, with everything from toys and lunchboxes through to t-shirts and movie posters flying off the shelves. According to reports, Universal Pictured has revealed that a sequel is planned and is set to be released in around June 2018. Trevorrow will also be directing this movie and stars of the first Jurassic World film, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas, are set to return for the second. No doubt, fans of the franchise will be just as eager to see the sequel as they were to see the first one but sadly it’s likely to be a three year wait.
