Music Preview: Bestival 2016

Bestival returns this weekend (Sep 8 – Sep 11) for its thirteenth year at the Robin Hill country park on the Isle of Wight.

Each year has run under a central theme – this year’s being ‘The Future is Here’- The theme
acts as inspiration for the famous day of fancy dress when tens of thousands will dress to impress and also many of the musical acts are very forward looking in sound.

Bestival 2016

Probably the last major music festival in the calendar year will this year feature the by now statutory eclectic but thoughtful line-up of both well known and emerging acts. This year’s attractions include The Cure , Major Lazer Hot Chip whilst legendary DJ’s Fatboy Slim and Norman Jay MBE will raise the feet from the grass long into the night.

The music is far more diverse and numerous than that small insight but even so the music is not the only attraction! Bestival has won awards for most years since inception in 2004 and last year scooped ‘Best Major Festival’at the annual UK Festival AWards. Of course every event will make some attempt of claiming it has ‘something for everybody’ and with the local W.I. in attendance with their ‘Tea Tent’ it would take a brave person to not to appreciate such a variety on hand!

Bestival 2016

But if even that isn’t enough to make Bestival special, recent years have included some new world records – from a Nile Rogers inspired largest Disco Ball (10.33m), the world’s biggest fancy dress party and this year possibly the world’s largest bouncy castle!
