If you’re lucky enough to live in Central London or are planning a trip to the capital this Autumn, THE place to eat at weekends right now is Big Easy, a hidden oasis right in the heart of Covent Garden. The attraction? Two words. Bottomless Brunch.
For a limited time only, in addition to their usual Brunch delights such as French Toast waffles and Shrimp Po Boy, this industrial chic, American style restaurant is serving a ‘Weekend Brunch’ menu offering a choice between limitless BBQ of St Louis Pork Ribs, North Carolina Chopped Pork, pit smoked BBQ chicken, served with fresh cornbread, smokey baked beans and home made coleslaw OR a WHOLE Nova Scotia Lobster.
If you prefer you can also go for a Lobster Mac ‘n’ Cheese Served with fries, House Salad.
Included with the price (£39.99) comes a steady top-up of Big Easy Brew, Prosecco or House Wine throughout your stay to keep the conversation flowing. The Ribs are authentically smoked and lip-smackingly delicious, the cornbread is light and the coleslaw, naturally homemade.
Be warned, the menu is meat-heavy so it’s probably not the best place to take a Vegetarian on a first date, but if they eat fish you might just get away with it as the lobster is as good as I’ve had anywhere.
Big Easy is HUGE, it’s set over 3 floors, but what’s nice is it still feels cosy. At this time of year when the wind is whistling outside it can be a real haven from the outside world and a great place to whole away the hours.
The lights are low and it’s an ‘easy’ place to relax in. Even the back of the bar is filled with tiny lights that reflect on the bottles to make them glisten like alcoholic Christmas Trees. The service is speedy and friendly and there’s a lively, enthusiastic buzz around the place that comes from the staff and rebounds back from the customers.
Ten years ago if you’d told someone you were heading into Covent Garden for a Texan Rub they may have raised an eyebrow. Thanks to shows like Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and the proliferation of smokers and barbecue education, thankfully these days its a much more respectable thing to do.
With their Bottomless Brunch, Big Easy is doing it with passion, sincerity and enough fizz to make even the grayest of Autumn days glow.
