As rhythm guitarist of Anthrax, Scott Ian has been playing to packed venues around the planet since 1981. Scott is also a huge comic and movie book fan, snowboarder and in the last few years he’s found a love for a different kind of live performance. No band, no props, just him, a microphone and an audience.
It all started when he was invited to appear on ‘Rock Stars Say The Funniest Things’ a series of live shows in London that also featured among others, Duff Mckagan (Gun’s N’ Roses / Velvet Revolver) sharing experiences from the mad, bad world of rock n’ roll. Initially he was unsure, but he agreed and despite his nerves and complete lack of rehearsal, the night was a roaring success and Scott immediately asked his agent to book more shows.
This lead to a successful tour of the UK and with the help of PledgeMusic, Scott is now releasing “Swearing Words in Glasgow”, a live DVD of his one man show. I caught a preview and I don’t want to say too much as it would spoil the enjoyment, but Scott is a natural entertainer and story-teller, hearing about the first time he got drunk with Lemmy from Motorhead, or the time Steven Spielberg talked to him about porn are great fun.
Aside from the music (and the comic books, and the snowboarding and the spoken word), Scott is also a big poker player and in 2010 he cashed out of the WSOP main event, finishing 634th out of 6494 entrants. He’s also a big fan of playing online too and the mass increase in mobile gaming in recent years, has meant online gaming sites can be enjoyed from anywhere; in the pub, on the train or if you’re like Scott, sat on the tour bus travelling to the next gig. One I’ve found recently is Casino Midas and because the site is optimised for mobiles, it all just works, no fuss. There are lots of slots and blackjack, and tons of options to play (just for fun too). Playing an online casino is a great way to escape from reality and listening to Anthrax on the headphones can definitely help with the concentration.
The DVD “Swearing Words In Glasgow” is available via Megaforce Records on November 13.
