As the summer closes in on us, it is important that we know how to deal with it.
The social gatherings, the barbecue parties, and the walks on the beach. There is a lot to look forward to, and while you want to enjoy every single moment of free time you have, you also want to stay stylish and fresh, and the summer is the perfect opportunity to do that.
You may find that you want to travel around if your circumstances allow it, or maybe you have a trip away already planned with your other half or the family. Whatever it may, it’s time to start thinking about yourself. Summer can be about many things, from winding down, to turning up. It’s essentially whatever you make it, but whatever you do, you want to make sure you look good doing it.
Trends are constantly changing every month, and while you should be yourself and never feel the need to follow – if you do struggle with your sense of style, then doing a bit of research can really help you find yourself. In the winter, people tend to focus on thicker material, as well as layering darker coloured fabrics. But a soon as the sun comes out, it’s about light materials, bright colours, and bold patterns, because that’s when you can really get away with it. Summer is the season to celebrate the sun, as well as showing off what you got.
Here are some basic rules to run through if you’re not sure what direction to go in.
Bold swimwear
This is one occasion where you can really go all out and not worry about what heads you may turn. If you’ve always wanted to break out of your comfort zone and try something new – now is the time. Test those magenta colours shorts with the purple polka dots on – when will you get an opportunity to wear something like that again? – Exactly. Don’t be afraid to show a new side of yourself. As long as you are confident in who you are, there is no reason you can’t be as loud as you want.
Welcome ankle
Unless you find yourself to be in a rather formal and professional setting, you really don’t need to be wearing socks at all. The heat escapes from our head and our feet, that’s why we try to keep them covered in the winter, but now it’s summer there is no need to do that anymore as it will just keep you warmer than you need to be. So take them off and be unapologetic for it. It’s actually a rather bold fashion statement to pair some loafers with bare feet, so do it with purpose.
Travel light
Because the weather is warm now, there is no reason to pack too much or too heavy because you won’t really need it, unless of course you’re going away for a month or more. But if you’re only taking a little trip, stick with a weekender bag with just the essentials that you need. Think about bringing items that can be used for different things so you don’t need as much. For example, swim shorts can also be used for working out in, or going out in during the day. An unlined blazer looks cool with shorts in the afternoon, but will also smarten up your appearance in the evening when paired with some chinos.
Appropriate footwear
The kind of men’s footwear you have says a lot about you as a person, so you will always want to keep this in the back of your mind when shopping. There are so many different looks to go through because there are so many different occasions to dress for. For example, when you’re at the beach you will want something that is quick and easy to get your feet in and out of – you wouldn’t wear boots. But if you’re going to a fancy dinner, you will want something that’s clean and classic to show you mean business.
Navy blazer
Owning a navy blazer is an absolute must have in your wardrobe. This is because the colour itself can be transformed into many different moods, just like the blazer can be used for multiple occasions and settings. You can dress it up for special events, dress it down for a fun date night, and dress it even further down for a day out roaming around in the sun. It’s extremely versatile, and yet super stylish, it’s all down to how you add to it.
Hipster hat
While sunscreen should always be used once the sun welcomes you with its rays – a hat can give you the same protection, if not more, as well as making a hot addition to your overall look. It will keep your face shaded and avoid the risk of it getting burnt, while being a cool accessory that will have others thinking you’re too hip to handle. You can do this with a baseball cap, a flat cap, or even a good ol’ fashioned straw hat.
Light suit
If you’re required to wear a suit for an occasion, whether it be a business meeting or even a wedding, you will want to opt for something light. Suits are known to be bulky and heavy, and when the weather is warm, this is an absolute nightmare because you will find yourself sweating all over and not want to lift your arms up because of the wet patches that will be on show. So go with a cotton or linen material. They are breathable and allow air to pass through, making the experience a more comfortable one.
Seductive shades
Everyone needs shades in the summer. Firstly because you won’t be able to see things properly without them, having some constant teary eyes to deal with. But not only that, they just look cool. Shades give you an air of badass. You’d be amazed at how much of an impact they have on your confidence just from putting them on. So make sure you get a decent selection of choices for various looks.
