Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fall 2013
Recap of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2013 at Lincoln Center, New York, NY February 9th, 2013 (day four)
Catherine Malandrino presented a lovely and artistic collection, inspired by French Art Deco, which was elegantly refined and cohesive. Dresses, coats, and separates came in wool, cashmere knit, and velvet. Burgundy/plum, deep blues and black- nude combinations brought a warm and inviting ambiance. There was great attention to detail with geometric prints, embroidery, and Swarovski crystals. Overall this collection was young yet sophisticated, and without a doubt the best yet from Catherine Malandrino.
Meanwhile at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, bright, bold patterns and pops of color comprised the latest Tracy Reese collection, and made for an astoundingly vibrant visual display. By utilizing such patterns as floral and plaid, Reese completely strayed from the norms of winter fashion. Sequins dazzled under the lights, and the layering of different textures and designs made for a show that stood out among the rest. Audiences will remember Tracy Reese’s FW 2013 (see above) collection for a long time.
Elegance, sophistication, and glamour were the main themes of David Tlale’s latest collection; bell bottoms, pretty patterns, and ladylike silhouettes were extremely prevalent throughout the line. Strong shoulders added to the strength of the entire collection and tulle and unique necklines created a very individual aesthetic; various bright red pops of color added to the intention of his work, creating a unique FW Collection.
It was black, white, and red all over as Vivienne Tam delivered a powerful collection inspired by pop art as well as change brought about by the Chinese New Year. A variety of fabrics were used including wool, silk/cotton, jersey, and leather. The striking prints, such as “pop culture Obama”, “Mao’s Letter”, and houndstooth, were unique and demanded attention. Many looks incorporated black belts that accentuated the waist. This line was about “cultural dialogue, change, and awakening”, and that message was brilliantly conveyed.
