How to Survive Living in A Fashion Capital like Paris

Living in a major fashion capital is never something one would call ‘easy’. While you are inspired by the art and beauty that surround you, many also often feel pressured to look and feel your best. But most of all, if you want to live in Paris, you must immerse yourself in the beautiful French culture through food, fashion and language. There is so much to experience here and while adjusting to living in the fashion capital can take some getting used to, it is worth putting the effort in so that you can really enjoy Paris.

Learn some French

No matter where you are, it is always recommended and also incredibly helpful to learn some of the local language. So, if you are going to be living in Paris, you’ll want to learn French. This will make not only getting around easier in day-to-day life, but also being able to immerse yourself into the full French cultural experience. Luckily there are many ways you can learn French (or another language) from the comfort of your own home. For example, while we are all here spending more time than ever at home, it is a great time to use apps like Babbel, a language learning app. When it comes to how effective Babbel is, even if you put in 15 minutes a day, you’ll be shocked by how rapidly your language skills will improve. Using an app makes it convenient to sneak in a language lesson whenever you have spare time, wherever you may be.

Make sure you have comfortable but chic walking shoes

In a city like Paris when you want to be out and exploring, the last thing you want is for your shoes to slow you down on those days you really want to be seeing what the city has to offer. So always make sure you have a comfortable yet chic pair (or two) of walking shoes. Chances are these will be the shoes you’ll find yourself reaching for most frequently.

Check out small libraries and book shops to immerse yourself in Parisian culture

One of the hidden gems of Parisian culture is the inclusion of small libraries and books shops scattered around the city. Perfect to duck into and get lost amongst for an afternoon, especially on a rainy day, grab a coffee and spend some time searching the covers here. Bonus if you’ve been learning French and can pick up some books in French!

Get all the essentials like a trench coat because it rains a lot

Having city essentials with weather appropriate adjustments is necessary. In Paris, some essentials you’ll want to be sure to have are: a trench coat, rain boots, and a sturdy yet stylish umbrella. It does rain a lot here, and you’ll want to have these items to pair with your favorite looks so you can still be fashionable but also be dressed appropriately for the weather.

Learn how to ride a bike and doing it effortlessly

One of the best ways to see and explore Paris is via bicycle. So if you are going to be living in this city, you’ll want to learn how to ride a bike and be confident in your skills in doing so! Watch the bicycle lanes any time you are out in Paris so you can learn the ways of the roads and be able to get around safely.

Paris is hands down one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but it’s important to know how to handle yourself there and how to survive amongst the lifelong Parisians. These tips here can help you feel more prepared and immersed into life in Paris, and it can take some time but it is definitely worth it!
