How to Make Your New House a Home – But on a Shoestring Budget!

To be able to move into your new home is an exciting time. Getting settled into it? That takes some time but some people don’t believe that they’ll ever move because of the costs involved. Mostly, they associate the costs of moving with more than just a moving van, though. They think about the furniture and the fact that they want to turn their house into something that resembles a home.

The good news is that there are so many low-cost ideas out there that turning a house into a home isn’t as hard as you think it is. You can get cheap dining tables and second-hand mismatched chairs. You can get a bed from the marketplace and repurpose it to be your new bed – albeit with a new mattress. There are so many ways that you can make your new house your homeliest place yet, even if your budget is tight. So, let’s take a look at how you can do it.

  1. Declutter and make a list of what you have first. The first thing that you should do is make a list of the things that you need. Doing this will enable you to determine whether or not you can afford the other things you need. If you’ve recently downsized, you may have bulky furniture to replace and you need to make a point of having furniture that fits the dimensions of the new place. This is much easier if you know what you need!
  2. Figure out your budget. How much do you have to play with when it comes to new furniture? Outside of your moving costs and your boxes, you should have a budget for the list of things that you need. A budget is helpful to have before you shop so that you know where the best places are to shop around. You can determine whether you go for any luxury splurges or whether you stick to the cheaper stores as a result.
  3. Order as soon as you can. You know your moving date, so you need to get things measured up to your new space and place an order as soon as you’re able to. This way, things can arrive before you do and you can get them built quickly and ready for you to move in with. Your sofa and dining table, for example, may take longer to arrive than the appliances you can get at the local shops yourself.
  4. Think about styles. There is no better way to make your house a home than to stamp your personal style right across it. It’s your time now to shop around and find something that fits who you are. Even if you go with something budget, there are soft furnishings and options that could last you and your home for years.

Trying to get your home looking more ‘you’ is going to take some time but once you do it, you’ll never look back! Enjoy your new adventure and comment to tell us all about the bargains you find.
