There are some places that stay with you long after you’ve unpacked your suitcase. For me, the Caribbean is one of them.
I’ve been lucky enough to travel to some incredible destinations over the years, from bustling cities to idyllic islands, but there’s something about the Caribbean that always draws me back. As someone who has always been obsessed with the buzz of the city, the Caribbean is my slice of calm, where I can be whisked away into a world of colours. It’s not just the postcard-perfect beaches or the impossibly turquoise water (although those certainly help!)

It’s the feeling I get as soon as I arrive, that I’m arriving somewhere I’m supposed to be. It’s a bit like heading home, where you feel utterly content, happy and comfortable. There’s something about when the plane doors open and a feeling of calm (and hot air) instantly envelopes me. There’s no rushing, shouting or barging out of the way, instead time seems to slow and the things that I normally worry about, don’t seem to be so urgent anymore.
East Destination is Different

One of the great things about the Caribbean is that it isn’t just one destination. It’s a collection of unique islands, each with its own personality, culture and charm. That’s one of the reasons I never tire of exploring it and want to continue going back. One trip might be spent discovering the colourful streets of the Bahamas (which I was lucky enough to do on a cruise), while the next could involve hiking through the lush rainforests of Saint Lucia or soaking up the sun on a beach in Barbados, which is where I chose to go for my honeymoon.
While I’m not the most adventurous, my husband is and loves to take me out of my comfort zone to explore the islands in a totally different way – something I never end up regretting! We’ve hiked volcanic peaks, ziplined through the rainforest, swam beneath waterfalls and explored the sets of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Time Goes Slower Here
Each day on the islands unfold effortlessly, where you can rise at whatever time you want and see the sun streaming through curtained windows. I love a slow morning with a coffee on the balcony, overlooking the ocean, the air fragrant, filled with the sounds of local birds and the gently swish of the sea. Afternoons might involve snorkelling above vibrant coral reefs, exploring hidden coves or simply finding the perfect spot beneath a palm tree with a good book. Evenings are just as memorable, with fresh seafood, barefoot walks along the beach, rum cocktails and spectacular sunsets.
The Unforgettable Food
I’m a huge foodie and every island has its own take on Caribbean cuisine, influenced by African, European, Indian and indigenous traditions. Whether it’s freshly grilled lobster enjoyed on a tiny island as part of a boat trip, fragrant jerk chicken cooked over open flames, spicy curries or tropical fruit picked just hours before reaching your plate, every meal is memorable.
You can Properly Switch Off
For someone who spends much of the year balancing work deadlines, family life and the general pace of everyday living, the Caribbean offers something increasingly valuable – the chance to properly switch off. There’s no pressure to fill every minute with activities. Instead, it encourages you to embrace a slower rhythm, appreciate the present and simply enjoy where you are. It’s a chance to get out into nature, to breathe in the fresh sea air and let yourself just be in the moment.

You Can Never Have Enough of The Caribbean
Each time I leave, I already find myself wondering when I’ll return to the Caribbean. There are still islands I’ve yet to visit and experiences I want to have. That’s part of the magic of the Caribbean. It never feels finished. No matter how many times you go, there’s always another island to discover and another beach to explore.
If you’re looking for a destination that combines breathtaking scenery, fascinating culture, exceptional food and the chance to truly unwind, it’s difficult to look beyond the Caribbean. For me, it remains one of the few places in the world that consistently exceeds expectations, and somewhere I can’t wait to return to again and again.
