Food: Ramen Shifu, Milan

Embrace the Flavour Adventure at Ramen Shifu in Milan

Since settling in Milan, I’ve been on a delicious journey exploring the city’s diverse culinary landscape. I LOVE pasta and italin food, but after years in London’s diverse food scene, I’ve found myself drawn to Porta Venezia, where Ramen Shifu beckons with its promise of authentic Japanese cuisine and a cool, urban vibe.

Situated at Via Monte Nero, Ramen Shifu isn’t just a restaurant; it’s kind of an experience too. You’re immediately enveloped in a dynamic atmosphere infused with manga-inspired decor and hints of cyberpunk, creating a setting that feels like a slice of Tokyo in Milan. The restaurant is relaxed, attracting a diverse crowd eager to savour bold flavors and immerse themselves in a real taste of Japanese culture.

During my recent visit, fellow diners savored everything from traditional Takoyaki to innovative vegan dishes, setting the stage for a culinary adventure.

Ramen Shifu has recently unveiled their spring/summer menu, introducing three tantalizing new creations that are perfectly refreshing in the Summer heat. Among the new additions, the menu now features noodles and rice dishes, each prepared without hot broth to suit the lighter palate of the season. Choose from a ginger-flavored minced meat sauce with soy and tofu over noodles, a curry sauce with minced meat infused with lime and ginger over rice, or a vegan delight with soya tofu and shiitake mushrooms in a savory sauce.

Start your meal with their enticing array of starters, ranging from crispy Gamberi in Tempura to the ever-popular Takoyaki, served in both traditional and vegan versions. The vegan versions are IMMENSE, the testure was sooo good. For mains, dive into their signature ramen bowls like the Yasi Shoyu Ramen, boasting a savory soy sauce broth that perfectly complements tender slices of meat and fresh vegetables. If you’re feeling adventurous, take on the Spicy Chicken Ramen, which delivers a fiery kick that’s as intense as it is delicious and I was only on level one of 5 levels!

The menu also caters to vegan and vegetarian preferences with options like the Riso con Salsa Vegan, featuring tofu, soy, and shiitake mushrooms in a flavorful curry sauce. Complete your meal with indulgent mochi desserts or sip on their unique cocktails, such as the Naruto with elderberry-flavored gin and a hint of ginger. There’s also a very nice tequilla cocktail too.

Speaking of challenges, Ramen Shifu offers adventurous diners the chance to test their limits with unique culinary feats straight from Japan. Take the “Rocky Challenge,” for instance, where you have 20 minutes to conquer a colossal bowl of ramen. Finish in time, and you’ll not only earn bragging rights but also a complimentary meal! For spice aficionados, the “Spicy Inferno Challenge” dares you to finish an ultra-hot ramen bowl in just 10 minutes—a task that promises two free dinners if conquered.

Beyond its gastronomic allure, Ramen Shifu pays homage to Japanese tradition while infusing a modern flair into its offerings. The meticulously crafted broths, highlight the restaurant’s dedication to quality and authenticity. Vegetarian and vegan options are also plentiful, catering to those seeking plant-based delights without compromising on taste.

With locations across Milan—including spots in Centrale, Porta Romana, and Navigli—each venue boasts a unique outdoor space where diners can soak in the city atmosphere while enjoying their meal. Whether you’re visiting for a casual lunch, a lively dinner, or a weekend outing, Ramen Shifu promises a fun and delicious dining experience in Porta Venezia.
