Esther Ku – Orgasmic Girl

Esther KuMaking a living as a comic in New York is tough, just ask Jerry Seinfeld. New York resident and comic Esther Ku first came to prominence in the US after becoming a finalist in the US TV Show. ‘Last Comic Standing‘, (a strange cross between X-Factor, Big Brother and Saturday Night Live).

Since then Esther has been busy writing songs, performing gigs and now Hollywood has been knocking at her door. Some people have called her the ‘Asian Sarah Silverman’. She looks innocent enough, but be warned Esther has the mouth of a docker.

Flush the Fashion spoke to her before she gets too famous..

How did you get into comedy?
I wrote for the school paper. Kids in my school would come up to me and say that they always read my columns first because I made them laugh.  So I imagined what it would be like to spy on them on Wednesday’s – newspaper day – to see which lines they laughed at exactly.

I got censored from the regular school paper for writing some outrageous content that the principal didn’t like. So I started an underground electronic newspaper back when Hotmail just came out. This gave me a lot of confidence to try stand-up.

A lot comedians are quite serious in real life. What was it like stuck in a house full of them for the Last Comic standing show?
It was insanity. I’m surprised no one got murdered. My friends tell me that I don’t know how to be serious.

Where do you get your ideas from?
I get high and I make fun of my friends. Actually I am looking for some Puerto Rican friends because I don’t have any Puerto Rican jokes yet.

Who are you comic heroes?

Rowan Atkinson and Jim Carrey.

There are not many sexy comediennes, if your career called for it would you ever consider cosmetic surgery to make your self less attractive?
Ha ha. Nope. But thank you.

Are you a fan of British comedians?
Rowan Atkinson is my British comedian crush. He is brilliant. He can make you laugh with just his facial and body movements. He doesn’t even need to say anything and he is hilarious. I share my Mr. Bean collection with everyone.

Would you like to do a ‘serious’ record in the future?
I played plenty of serious classical music on the oboe when I was younger. Although those Mozart and Vivaldi concertos can sound beautiful it’s just not as entertaining as performing a song parody such as “My Boyfriend’s Black”.  So, no.

What part would you have loved to play in movie history?
I would have loved to play Willy Wonka.

You recently recreated the Harry Met Sally scene in the VW advert, did you find it easy to fake an orgasm?
It would have been easier if they had just let me have a real one on set.

What have you got planned for 2011?
Writing more songs, learning the banjo, performing comedy. I just finished filming my first hood movie – “The Cookout 2” with Wendy Williams, Ja Rule, and Mike Tyson. Should be coming out later this year!

Look out for big things from Esther in 2011
