Born in Kaiserslautern, Germany to musical parents, amazingly Zedd has only been producing and remixing music for a little over two years. His ascent to the top has been swift, accelerated by winning an Armand Van Helden remix competition at the first attempt.
Still only 21 he has already remixed some big names including Lady Gaga, P Diddy and the Black Eyed Peas.
Currently on the road with Skrillex and Porter Robinson in the closest thing to Rock N’ Roll dance music gets.
What are you up to at the moment?
We are about a third of the way through the tour with Skrillex and Porter Robinson in the US. It’s been an amazing time. All shows are sold out and the crowd is always extremely excited. We’re all so happy about how great the tour is, it’s unbelievable!
I’m also putting the finishing touches to quite a lot songs I want to release soon!
Can any of you cook on the tour?
That’s a good question hahaha! … let me put it this way… we’ve able to make great sandwiches in the bus!!!
On the bus after the show is it laptops or lap dancing?
Laptops and Lapdancing!
Who gets the most groupies?
I think Hugh Heffner…
Are you working on any new remixes?
The latest remix I did was a remix for Swedish House Mafia’s “Save The World”. At the moment I’m concentrating on my original work.
How would you like to work with / remix / produce?
That’s a good questions. There are a lot. I’ve just started to work on some material with Heather Bright who is a phenomenal singer. The list would be so long that rather don’t even start it. There are so many inspiring artists, especially singers I would love to work with.
Can you play any ‘proper’ instruments?
Yes, I play the piano, the drums and and a bit of guitar / bass.
Do you use any retro synths in your set up?
Nope, I only use digital stuff / VST plug-ins / Cubase 6
When are you coming to the UK next?
My next show in UK is July 29 – Global Gathering! The next day I play Ministry Of Sound in London with Benny Benassi.
What is the best club you have been to?
That’s pretty difficult. I’ve been in a lot of great clubs. I loved Webster Hall in New York. Also Voyeur in San Diego is amazing.
Have you got the new Nintende 3d Zelda?
I don’t own a Nintendo DS so – nope! Unfortunately not.
Look out for Zedd’s new single coming soon on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records.
