Thirteen unlucky for some?
So has it really been that long already? Thirteen years since we first heard ‘Bohemian Like You’, and it still resounds in my ears, and you know what it will properly be there in anther thirteen years to come. I’m not normally a fan of remastered, repackaged, re-give-us-all-your-money re-releases, however The Dandy Warhols could be one of the few exceptions.
CD 1 is the remastered original album, and if you haven’t heard it before, the journey you are taken on is one of confusion, genius, passion and love, lost in the sound you will not be disappointed.
CD 2 is the main reason for rushing out and buying this album. Infused with early 4 track demos and preciously unreleased songs, this is certainly one for the more music anorak type, which suits me down to the ground. Even though there are only three songs which aren’t demo’s on this album, they are worth their weight in gold. The stand out song for me is ‘Unknown’ truly showing off the bands psychedelic ways, a simple song yes but intriguing and reflexive of the bands roots.
The early demo’s and live tracks you get on these albums are always interesting as you can see how a band grew and evolved a song. The little tweaks that can be heard in the two different versions of ‘Godless’ are worth listening out for. Even in the demo version of ‘Bohemian like you’ can hear the great potential this song had from its very early days and can understand and appreciate why it made such an impact on our hearts.
If you are an avid fan of The Dandy Warhols you’ll properly already have this re-mastered edition on pre-order, as I would with some of my favourite bands. If you already have the album and its collecting dust on your side maybe this is the time for you to rediscover an album which has surpassed all expectations, and if you don’t have it already why not?
Where have you been for the last thirteen years?
