Madeon – Enfant De Terrible

madeon interviewFrance has a knack of producing talented youngsters… Vanessa Paradis, Audrey Tatou and Joan of Arc

Many of my favourite musicians are also French… Serge Gainsbourg, MC Solar and Air, are all regulars on my stereo. Now I have a new name to add to that list…

Madeon is from Nantes in France, he is 17, (yes 17!) years old. For someone so young he already has a pretty mean reputation as a Pop / House / Electro producer and remixer. Coming to prominence winning a Warner Bro’s competition to remix Pendulum’s ‘The Island’ single (chosen by Pendulam vocalist Rob Swire).

Since then he has been busy and recent work has included an AWESOME remix of the Deadmau5 track “Raise Your Weapon”.

A debut EP is on the way and he is about to start DJ’ ing live. Still a man of mystery, could it be the boy wonder is Daft Punk in disguise?

How long have you been making music?
I’ve been into music making for five years now.

Are you still at school?
I was a terrible student so I got kicked out of high school last year. I’m holding it off for a moment before passing my exams.

What equipment do you use?
I have a very basic set-up centered around a computer a keyboard and a pair of speakers. I use FL Studio as my DAW (win a copy of FL Studio on FTF here).

Do you have your own studio?
If the aforementioned equipment constitutes a studio, then yes !

Who is your favourite producer / remixer right now?
Narrowing it down to one would be impossible so I’ll name both Stuart Price (Les Rythmes Digitales) and Wolfgang Gartner.

Do you have any plans to collaborate with anyone else?
In terms of other producers, not right now, but i am excited to work with some singers and songwriters as well as live musicians.

Who would you like to remix?
The artist I’m set to remix after the EP is done. :)

Is the EP finished yet?
No, the four songs are composed and structured, but I’m still in the early stages of the proper production.

When will it be out?
I’m aiming at a late July/August release.

Are you looking forward to going out and DJ’ing, and what sort of things will you be playing?
I most certainly am. The set-up is unusual, I’m gonna share a video next month to demonstrate the concept (see below).

Who are your heroes?
Paul McCartney and Thomas Bangalter.

Where do you want to be in 10 years?
I want to be making music, with a few strong and diverse albums behind me.
